Amnesty International is born

Peter Benenson's article "The Forgotten Prisoners" in The Observer launches the campaign for prisoners of conscience.

1977

Nobel Peace Prize

Awarded to Amnesty International for its work defending prisoners of conscience around the world.

1998

Rome Statute

The International Criminal Court is established. Amnesty is among the organisations that pushed for its creation.

2018

Amnesty Italy's campaign for a consent-based rape law, in the wake of the Istanbul Convention.
